We are excited to share the results of the 2025 Goal-Directed Perfusion (GDP) Survey, an initiative of the VCSQI Perfusion Group and the Perfect Care Impact Network (PCIN). This regional effort captured current perfusion practices across Virginia, Maryland, and North Carolina and reflects growing collaboration across our network.
Led by Eve Dallas, CCP (UVA)—Champion of the VCSQI Perfusion Group and Co-Champion of the PCIN Workgroup—alongside Terri Haber (MCSQI), Co-Champion of the PCIN Workgroup, this survey offers valuable insights into evolving trends in cardiopulmonary bypass management.
Survey Highlights:
Response Rate: 25 total responses, representing a 74% participation rate
Geographic Reach: Programs from Maryland, Virginia, and North Carolina
Practice Patterns Identified:
Use of DO₂ monitoring to assess perfusion adequacy
Adoption of techniques like Acute Normovolemic Hemodilution (ANH) and Rapid Autologous Priming (RAP)
Use of cerebral oximetry and hemoconcentrators during CPB
Incorporation of point-of-care viscoelastic testing in transfusion algorithms
Varied transfusion triggers and CPB charting methods
Broad interest in future regional data collaboration
This effort demonstrates our community’s commitment to transparency, shared learning, and high-quality care. The insights gathered not only reflect where we are today but also point the way forward as we continue working toward standardizing and improving GDP practices.
We thank everyone who participated, contributed ideas, or supported this work through the VCSQI and PCIN networks. We look forward to future discussions, shared data efforts, and continued progress together.
