Where Data, Quality and Clinical Practice Come Together

This fall, VCSQI members will have two opportunities to step away from day-to-day demands, connect with colleagues and focus on a shared priority: using better information and stronger collaboration to improve cardiovascular care across Virginia.
The VCSQI Fall Quarterly Meeting will take place on Thursday, October 22, 2026, at Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden in Richmond. The evening will begin with a networking hour from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m., followed by dinner and the meeting program. Both in-person and virtual attendance are available at no cost.
Turning Data into Action
A featured portion of this quarter’s program will bring togeth
er two leaders with distinct but complementary perspectives on healthcare data:
Amber Pawlikowski, Vice President of Performance at Biome, and Andre Tolleris, Director of Data Analytics at the Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association.
Their presentation will be designed for the people who work with data and the people whose daily decisions are reflected in it. Quality professionals, data managers, clinicians, administrators and program leaders can expect a practical discussion focused on how performance information can reveal variation, sharpen improvement priorities and support more informed clinical and operational decisions.
The value of data is not found in a dashboard alone. It comes from asking the right questions, understanding the story behind the numbers and using that information to drive meaningful change. By bringing together the perspectives of Biome and VHHA, this session will give VCSQI members an opportunity to consider how different sources of information can work together rather than compete for attention.
The meeting will also provide time for members to reconnect, exchange ideas and learn how other teams are addressing familiar challenges. In-person attendance is strongly encouraged because the conversations that happen between presentations are often just as valuable as the formal program.
Advancing ECMO Collaboration Across Virginia
The fall program will also include an ECMO Workgroup meeting, bringing together ECMO leaders, clinicians, perfusionists, quality professionals, and multidisciplinary team members from across Virginia. The workgroup was established to build a shared understanding of current practices, examine opportunities for greater alignment, and strengthen collaboration among organizations providing ECMO care. For professionals involved in clinical care, program development, data analysis, or performance improvement, the session offers a valuable forum to exchange experience, identify common challenges, and help shape more consistent ECMO processes statewide.
Begin the Conversation a Day Earlier
Members are also encouraged to attend the Virginia Heart Attack Coalition Statewide Meeting, which begins on October 21 and continues through October 22 at Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden. The meeting will bring together EMS professionals, physicians, nurses, hospital leaders, quality experts and regional partners for education and collaboration focused on emergency cardiovascular systems of care.
The VHAC program offers a natural lead-in to the VCSQI Quarterly Meeting. While VHAC examines care from the field through definitive treatment, VCSQI provides a broader setting to study performance, outcomes and opportunities for improvement. Together, the meetings connect the clinical, operational and analytical sides of cardiovascular care.
For clinicians, the discussions offer insight into the systems and data that shape patient care beyond the bedside. For quality and data professionals, they provide important clinical context for the measures, trends and variations they monitor. Attending all meetings creates a fuller view of how prehospital care, hospital processes, clinical judgment and performance data must align to produce better outcomes.

Registration is now open for the VCSQI Fall Quarterly Meeting, ECMO Workgroup Meeting, and the VHAC Statewide Meeting.
