The Virginia Cardiac Services Quality Initiative (VCSQI) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Chalak O. Berzingi, MD to the VCSQI Board of Directors.

Dr. Berzingi is an accomplished interventional cardiologist with Carilion Clinic’s Cardiovascular Institute and a Professor of Medicine. He brings deep clinical expertise in complex coronary interventions and a strong commitment to quality improvement and collaborative care.

In addition to his clinical and academic roles, Dr. Berzingi serves as the Western Regional Medical Director for the Virginia Heart Attack Coalition (VHAC) and is the physician champion of the VHAC Shock Workgroup. In this role, he has helped lead the development of a statewide cardiogenic shock protocol, working in close collaboration with VCSQI and VHAC member organizations, including UVA, Inova, and other health systems across Virginia. This work reflects his dedication to advancing standardized, evidence-based care and strengthening coordination across institutions.

Dr. Berzingi’s leadership, collaborative approach, and focus on measurable improvement strongly align with VCSQI’s mission to improve the quality and outcomes of cardiac care across the Commonwealth.
