The VCSQI ECMO Workgroup was launched with a focused, content-rich session designed to establish shared understanding, review best practices, and begin aligning ECMO processes across Virginia. This inaugural meeting brings together ECMO leaders, clinicians, and multidisciplinary team members from across the state.


Agenda

1. ECMO Program Spotlight: University of Virginia (UVA)

Presenter: Brian Clouse (UVA)

A detailed overview of UVA operational framework, including:

  • Training models and competency development

  • Equipment selection and utilization

  • Staffing models and required personnel

  • A statewide look at where ECMO programs currently operate and how services are distributed across Virginia


2. Journal Club & Case Review (article pending)

Presenter: Dustin Money (UVA)

A clinical deep dive into current literature and real-world cases, examining decision-making, complications, and opportunities for practice improvement. Attendees will engage in discussion around lessons learned and emerging evidence. 


3. ELSO Report Update

Presenter: Dustin Money (UVA)

A review of key data and trends from ELSO relevant to Virginia programs, including outcomes, national benchmarking, and implications for collaborative improvement.


4. Resent Supply Challenges - Open Discussion

Facilitator: Brandi Brummer (VCU)

 

All ECMO-involved programs and professionals across VCSQI are invited to participate.
